I bought a brand-new Discovery TD5 in July 2002. We need a 4WD as we live up a rough track a mile long, and get snowed in during the winter if we are not careful--no fun after the first three days. Since we bought this Discovery, it has been plagued with silly little niggling problems: the
The infamous 'Three Amigos' all illuminate on start up, but then go out once running. However, the vehicle seems to have a very slight hesitation or misfire which occurs around 2000-2500rpm when driving on a light throttle or with gentle acceleration. Lower revs or harder acceleration at higher revs don't seem to show it, but it's like it's
Less common, but just as messy is the cam box sealant breaking down and leaking oil out through the 2 halves. ( Quite an expensive fix as the head bolts need to be removed to repair it, which in essence is a head gasket replacement job) Also, the fuel block leaks diesel down the RH rear of the head/ block.
Basic electrical fault finding is fairly simple as long as you follow a logical sequence. This list can be used top to bottom or visa versa using circuit diagram and a leadlight or multimeter. Check for a voltage at the fuse or power. feed to the unit. Check for voltage at the unit.
It could be your bcu body control unit. Reading up on disco 2 problems with these symptoms with a Land Rover mechanic and it says that these problems are common and itβs down to moisture getting in and damaging the earth wire. Ie rusty contact. Try removing it and give it a good looking over.
The biggest thing with the TD5 D2 is not to ignore small problems as they invariably bite you in your wallet. Mines an auto and despite the fact that it's in for a new engine at the moment (original went tits up thanks to the common oil pump bolt problem) I couldn't be without it.
Common problem, but worth checking. You will need a Nanocom or a Hawkeye from a friendly local to plug it in and see. Also check the wiring that runs around and over the top of the T box, that comes from the XYZ switch. It has a habit of chafing through on the metal P clip that holds it to the top of the box.

This would cause a symptom like you are having. Solution, remove the bolts of the slave, without disconnecting supply line if possible, and turn the rod in the direction that extends it. try a 1/4 ich to start. Make sure you test your pedal travel afterwards using the 1 inch off the floor before it bites info.
